Gundam (Gandamu dlm bhs Jepang) adalah serial animasi Jepang yang pertama kali muncul di TV Jepang sekitar April 1979 dengan judul “Mobile Suit Gundam”. Gundam sendiri adalah mesin perang dalam bentuk robot raksasa yang dikemudikan oleh seorang pilot.
Gundam sebagai pionir utk mecha anime diciptakan dengan pertimbangan realisme desain robot dan persenjataan scientifically.
Saat ini nilai dari franchise Gundam mencapai 50 Milyar Yen (coba kalo di kali Rp90/yen jadinya brp tuh)

Setiap seri memiliki tokoh dan tipe robot sendiri, tapi tipe yg paling populer adalah RX-78-2, type ini sudah ada sejak Gundam pertama kali dan mempunyai variasi model cukup banyak, contohnya RX-78- GP01, GP02, GP02 MLRS, GP03, NT-1 Alex, RX-178 dll. Basic Gundam adalah dari model RX-78-2 itu terus dikembangin lagi jadi Gundam Wing Zero, Strike Gundam, dll. Utk tipe robot musuh yg favorit adalah Zaku, Rick Dom, Zeong, Qubeley, Gouf, Gelgoog dll.
