The Figure ( Physical Appearance )
Batara Guru has the unique physical appearance. In a big line, Batara Guru has four hands. He has small canine tooth. Blue neck and he has a pair of disablement foot. And for walk, Batara Guru always rides a cow named Nandi. Batara Guru is the only puppet character which appeared to front. It faces to human. We can see this on his foot, but because he formed as a puppet, therefore he faced in side.
Batara Guru included in Morga puppet. Morga puppet is the special class in puppet world. With the luruh (become emotionally affected, be touching to the heart) character and the tumungkul (head-down position) face potition with some decorations. They are turida, jamang, sumping mangkara, uncin with bludiran pattern and short gelung gelapan utah – utah button and wears rembing. He also has praba ( a light circle behind his body ; signified as a God ). Batara Guru wear foot wear (sandal) named maduka cerma and he has a Keris ( Javanese traditional weapon).
The History
The Born of Batara Guru
Batara Guru created from the shimmer light by Sang Hyang Tunggal together with the black light which also the born of Semar ( Ismaya ). Sang Hyang Tunggal has a decision that Batara Guru is the king in Suryalaya whereas Semar is down to earth to take care of Pandawa. Batara Guru has two brothers. One day his mother Dewi Rekatawati born a shining egg. Sang Hyang Tunggal changed that egg. The shell of that egg changed into the oldest Sang Hyang Maha Punggung. The albume changed into Sang Hyang Ismaya (Semar) and the egg yolk changed into Sang Hyang Manikmaya or Batara Guru it self. One day, Sang Hyang Tunggal abided two of his sons to keep the human, especially Pandawa. Meanwhile Sang Hyang Tunggal choosed Batara Guru to lead the God and Goddles in heaven.
Batara Guru Cursed by his Father
On his born, Batara Guru always think that he is the most perfect creature in his world without any deformity. Becaused of his magniloquent, Sang Hyang Tunggal punished him. One day he felt thirsty and he drank the water in the pound. He soon knew that the water was poisoned and he casted forth it. Becaused of it he got striped skin in his neck. One day, Batara Guru saw the baby born. He thought that the foot of that born baby were so weak. One day, Batara Guru went mat with his wife Dewi Uma. His foot became weak in that time and his wife cursed Batara Guru in order he got canine tooth like a giant. One day Batara Guru saw the human who is praying to him. He laughed at the human and on that time Batara Guru was cursed. He has four hand on that time.
The Characters
Batara Guru is the highest leader in puppet world. His heart is hard and strong. Sometime, he has a kind hearted heart and emotionally affected feeling too. He speaks softly to the other puppet character. In other side, Batara Guru has bad characters. He is arrogant and magniloquent. He ever break a propierty, he gave the wahyu (holy verse) to his son who don’t have right to accept it. He ever cursed by his father because of his magniloquent.
The Philosophy
On the everyday occasions, we have to be a wise person in realizing the problems that we get. We must have cold-minded in every condition. We don’t have to be arrogant although we have the excessness. We don’t have to feel the most perfect person because the perfection is only from Allah SWT. We don’t have to meddled people’s problems.
