Japanese companies have shown keen interest in contributing to the development and operation of airports in Indonesia, particularly Sultan Aji Muhammad Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan. During the Air Transportation Working Group (ATWG) event held from January 18 to 20, 2024, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) shared that four Japanese companies—Japan Airport Terminal Co. Ltd, JALUX Inc., Taisei, and SECOM Co. Ltd—are eager to collaborate in this venture. These companies boast extensive experience in constructing and managing major airports in Japan, such as Haneda Airport and Narita Airport, along with international projects like Beijing International Airport in China and New Ulaanbaater Airport in Mongolia.
