Kerumutan reserve forest is a conservation area that located in Kerumutan sub-district and spreading across two districts namely Pelalawan and Indragiri Hulu, Riau Province. The forest boundary is the River of Indragiri, Kampar River, the East Coast of Sumatra and East Cross Road Sumatra.
The conditions of this lowland forest is vary, which divided into three areas: The core area (Kerumutan Wildlife Refuge area) covering an area of ??93,223 ha, Peat Protected Areas (potential expansion area) covering ??52 213 ha, and outside the core area (Intervention), this is a place of rescuing peat swamp forest ecosystem, covering 1,176,734 ha.
Although this forest is being used as industrial land forestry, plantation and cultivation but Kerumutan forests is retain its privileges. In addition to magnificent forest scenery, the main attraction of this forest is in the wealth of flora and fauna and one of them is the existence of the Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrensis).
